Goal of the game?
Can you please clarify the goal of the game?
I saw the mission statement as "assess math knowledge and concepts Variables and Equality and Linear Functions.
You mean, the goal is to determine what level the player is in as described in here?

Yes, there are three strands: (1) equality and variable (2) linear functions and (3) open, provide another progression
For any of the three strands, the game should provide evidence that the students is operating at a particular level of that learning progression. Most of the levels of the progression are rather broad, so you may, for instance, have weaker level 3 students (just moved from level 2) and stronger level 3 students (almost at level 4).
As part of the design process, we encourage you to download our template: https://ets-games-challenge.s3.amazonaws.com/ETS%20differentiation%20rubric.ppt and to try filling it out with some of your ideas. It provides a useful way of thinking about the progressions and evidence.

And the idea is that the game would be autonomous, with no need for checking from others, as in, sit the kid down and make him play without assistance or guidance from a teacher, right?
As in, it must be electronic?

Electronic, yes. See rule 4c: "A working software application that runs on a widely available software platform (e.g. the web, desktop, iOS, Android, etc.). "
However, we have set no rules regarding how autonomous the game should be and remain open to any and all possibilities.
